Online Radio Growth Continues In Triton Digital's January Rankings

Triton Digital has released its monthly Internet audio rankings for January 2013, with listening numbers showing further growth after the holiday season. Pandora ranked at #1 in Average Active Sessions (AAS) for Monday - Friday (6a-8p) in the Domestic Rankings once again, with a new high in AAS of 1,777,252, up slightly from their December numbers. Domestic Ranker Session Starts are on the cusp of crossing a billion soon, as Pandora had over 900 million in January. Clear Channel came in second once again, with 282,019 AAS, an increase from 266,937 the previous month. It had almost 126.8 million Session Starts as well. The top ten was filled out with CBS Radio, Cumulus, Slacker, NPR Member Stations, Cox Radio, EMF Corporate, ESPN Radio and Entercom.

Looking at January's All Streams Ranker (M-F, 6a-8p), Clear Channel was on top with 284, 151 AAS, with Digitally Imported Inc. ranked #2 and CBS Radio in third. Prisa Radio, Cumulus, Slacker, EMF Corporate, NPR, Cox and ESPN round out the top ten.

For the full week Domestic Ranker (6a-mid), Pandora was on top with over 1.5 million AAS, followed by Clear Channel, CBS Radio, Cumulus, Slacker, NPR, Cox, EMF Corporate, ESPN and Entercom. As for the All Streams Ranker's full week stats (6a-mid), Clear Channel was still at #1, with Digitally Imported at #2 and CBS Radio at #3, then Prisa Radio, Slacker, Cumulus, NPR, EMF Corporate, Cox and 977Music.com.

Additionally, Triton Digital released data on where listeners are tuning in to which Internet radio stations. Terrestrial publishers showed an 80/20 split in favor of listening on desktops, while pureplay publishers tracked in the opposite direction with a 70/30 split in favor of mobile listening. However, terrestrial publishers did see an 18 percent increase in mobile listening in January, which was the fastest growing sector of the month. Pureplay desktop and mobile
listening remained relatively consistent at a two percent and three percent gain respectively.
