Quick Hits: Kings of Leon, Depeche Mode, Thirty Seconds To Mars, Record Store Day
March 8, 2013

Kings of Leon
Kings of Leon have been in the studio working on their sixth LP, the follow-up to 2010's Come Around Sundown. In a series of tweets, bassist Jared Followill gave an update on the band's progress, although he admitted that he was imbibing a little too much to get any work done. "Wine isn't for everyone, but it is definitely for me," he wrote. "Just tried for a sequence to the new album. Very exciting stuff. I can't quite nail it down due to the being too drunk. ?#Tomorrow". He later added: "My 'drafts' on twitter should be titled 'drunk thoughts you might tweet tomorrow if they're not too offensive.'" So far, the band has been confirmed to play a number of European festivals this summer, as well as U.K. shows in June and July. It is unclear exactly when the album will come out.

Following on the heels of their panel announcement, Depeche Mode have confirmed their first ever showcase at Austin's SXSW festival on Friday, March 15. The show will take place at Brazos Hall with Feathers confirmed as an opener. The concert will give fans an exclusive preview of Depeche Mode's new album, Delta Machine, which is due out on Columbia Records on March 26. The band also revealed earlier this week that they will sit down for a discussion moderated by KCRW/Los Angeles MD Jason Bentley on Wednesday, March 13 at the Austin Convention Center.

In other SXSW news, Jared Leto of Thirty Seconds To Mars will discuss music, film and technology at a series of SXSW events. On March 12, he will participate in a pair of invitation-only events: Twitter Music: An Exclusive Conversation with Jared Leto; as well as the Fast Company Creative Conversation with Jared Leto and Jonah Peretti, founder of Buzzfeed. Also, The SXSW Interview with Jared Leto will take place on March 13, and later that afternoon there will be a screening of Artifact, a documentary that follows Thirty Seconds To Mars as they battle their record label in a brutal lawsuit and record their album, This Is War. The film won the People's Choice documentary award at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival and the Audience Award at the 2012 Gotham Independent Film Awards.

Grouplove, Frightened Rabbit and Manchester Orchestra have teamed up to release a very special 12-inch single for Record Store Day. The release, which features the Manchester Orchestra/Grouplove collaboration "Make It To Me" and the Manchester Orchestra/Frightened Rabbit collaboration "Architect," will be available on Saturday, April 20 at participating independent record stores.
