The Roots drummer ?uestlove has spilled the beans that Justin Timberlake is prepping a second album for release in the fall, following The 20/20 Experience, which drops this week. "Spoiler alert," Quest wrote on the Okayplayer.com message boards. "20/20 Vol. 2 comes out in Nov. 10 songs now... 10 songs later = 20 vision." It is no surprise that Quest would have some inside info on Timberlake. After all, JT spent all of last week appearing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon with The Roots, and on top of that, Quest also deejayed before Timberlake's intimate "secret show" in Austin at SXSW on Saturday. The 800-seat "MySpace Secret Show" was part of the finale of this year's festival, where JT played old hits such as "Like I Love You" and "My Love" as well as previewing three tracks from the new CD.
Though 20/20 is an album-length collaboration with producer Timbaland, it's unclear if the second volume is also produced by Tim. It's also possible that it could feature more songs with Jay-Z, since Timberlake said on BET's 106 & Park last week that they recorded many tracks together. JT explained that he and Jay initially hooked up while he, Timbaland and Jay were working on Beyoncé's forthcoming album.
"I was with Tim and we were working on stuff for Miss Beyoncé," he said. "And she made the mistake of letting Jay and I have another room at the studio. Actually, I don't want to give too much away, but we've done a lot of songs together. So hopefully those will find a way to see the light of day."
Meanwhile, industry sources expect The 20/20 Experience to sell at least 500,000 copies in its first week, and easily give Timberlake the #1 spot on the album sales chart. The set already is #1 on the iTunes chart after it was streamed online last week.
