Quick Hits: Beyonce, Billboard Music Awards, Lollapalooza, Orion Music + More, White House Memphis Soul tribute, Ke$ha, Snoop Lion / Miley Cyrus

In a follow-up to Beyonce's very short teaser video yesterday, the big news is out: a new single, indeed, but embedded in a Pepsi commercial. The single, entitled "Grown Woman" releases digitally on April 8. The commercial shows Beyonce taking a sip of a Pepsi, and somehow switching into a seemingly Pepsi-induced hallucination in which Beyonce dances with multiple copies of herself in mirrors; each copy representing her musical legacy like the “Crazy In Love” Beyonce and “Single Ladies” Beyonce. She dances, of course, to her new single, which was produced by Timbaland. See the video here.

Taylor Swift
Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, along with R&B musician Miguel, will all be performing at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards, airing live on ABC May 19. They're joining the roster with the already-announced Prince, who will be honored with the Billboard Icon Award. Bieber, Miguel, Swift and Mars are also all up for the fan-driven Milestone Award; fans can vote online for their favorite artist and win the opportunity to present the award alongside Cee Lo Green during the event.

On Wednesday, Lollapalooza completely sold out in its first day of ticket sales. If you didn't already buy your ticket, then you're out of luck; the entirety of one-day, three-day and VIP passes sold very quickly. The three-day passes sold out in just three hours when they went on sale March 26, which was several days before the formal lineup was even announced. The VIP passes went even faster, having sold out within one hour. The third and final day of the festival was the final day to sell out. The festival's daily capacity is capped at 100,000, with 80,000 three-day passes made available and 20,000 single-day passes.

Orion Music + More, the two-day festival created by Metallica, has added to its lineup. In addition to the headlining performance by Metallica, other featured artists include Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rise Against, an Infectious Grooves reunion, Rocket From The Crypt, Vista Chino, Dead Sara, and many more. The festival will take place June 8-9 at Belle Isle in Detroit, MI. The Infectious Grooves reunion will include Mike Muir (Suicidal Tendencies), Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Stephen Perkins (Jane's Addiction), Dean Pleasants (Suicidal Tendencies), and special guest Jim Martin (ex-Faith No More, filling in for original guitarist Adam Siegel). Vans will also be returning with a vert ramp and pro skaters performing demos. The festival also managed to snag Detroit restaurateur and entrepreneur Phil Cooley of Slows BBQ to provide some sustenance to festival-goers.

On April 9, the sounds of Memphis will be honored at the White House. PBS' website says about the event, "In Performance at the White House: Memphis Soul is a PBS music special taped in the East Room of the White House, celebrating the timeless classics of Memphis Soul." President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama will host the event, which "pays homage to Memphis, a segregated city in the 1960s where many whites and blacks nonetheless came together to make soulful music, a mix of gospel and potent rhythmic grooves – known today as 'Memphis Soul.'" Performers include Alabama Shakes, William Bell, Steve Cropper, Ben Harper, Queen Latifah, Cyndi Lauper, Joshua Ledet, Sam Moore, Charlie Musselwhite, Mavis Staples and Justin Timberlake. The performance will premiere Tuesday, April 16 at 8 p.m. ET on your local PBS station.

During a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) session, The Flaming Lips' frontman Wayne Coyne revealed that the band is doing a full-length album with Ke$ha, amusingly titled, Lip$ha. Coyne also revealed some rather interesting bits of information. One of which is that the band is working on another video, and that their new album, The Terror, will be released April 16. Check out the full AMA here.

Miley Cyrus has contributed vocals to Snoop Lion's (aka Snoop Dogg) new single "Ashtrays and Heartbreaks" from his forthcoming album, Reincarnated, due for release April 23. The track also features percussion by Stewart Copeland of The Police and was produced by Major Lazer and Ariel Rechtshaid and co-produced by Dre Skull. Cyrus' contribution to the chorus includes the line, "Now my buzz is gone / I need to re-up on reality," -- the entire song is highly implicit of cannabis usage.
