Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake has been tapped to star in a biopic about Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart called Spinning Gold. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Timberlake is the first actor to join the cast of the film, which is being produced by Timberlake, Matt Damon, Laurence Mark and Timothy Scott Bogart, Neil's son. Casablanca Records was the premier disco label in the 1970s, signing artists such as Donna Summer, The Village People and Curtis Mayfield. The movie will chronicle Bogart's emergence from a poor Brooklyn upbringing to the successful founding of Casablanca and, later, New Wave Records.

On Wednesday, we reported that Chris Kelly (aka Mac Daddy) of the '90s Hip-Hop duo Kriss Kross passed away at the age of 34. His death is being investigated as a possible drug overdose, and now his bandmate Chris Smith has released a statement about his passing. "Chris Kelly was my Best Friend. He was like a brother. I love him and will miss him dearly," Smith stated. "Our friendship began as little boys in first grade. We grew up together. It was a blessing to achieve the success, travel the world and entertain Kris Kross fans all around the world with my best friend. It is what we wanted to do and what brought us happiness. I will always cherish the memories of the C-Connection." The pair had split up years ago as a musical act, but they reunited for the So So Def 20th anniversary concert earlier this year.

The Gigantour festival, founded in 2005 by Dave Mustaine, will return this summer. In addition to headliner Megadeth, the multi-artist bill features Black Label Society, Device, Hellyeah, Newsted and Death Division. The trek will begin on July 3 in Gilford, NH and wind its way through North America, ending on August 11 in Toronto. Tickets go on sale on May 10 with a special Gigantour pre-sale on May 9. Check www.gigantour.com for details. Meanwhile, Megadeth's 14th studio album, Super Collider, is due on June 4.

Many Boston musical natives such as Aerosmith, Extreme, Godsmack, The J. Geils Band, and New Kids on the Block have signed on to play at a Boston Marathon benefit concert on May 30. The show, taking place at the TD Garden, will benefit the One Fund, a collection of donations that will be distributed to the survivors of the April 15 bombings and the families of those killed in the attack.

Judas Priest is celebrating their 40th anniversary with the theatrical release of the live concert Epitaph. The concert movie will have a special screening at the Clearview Chelsea in New York on May 14 and then in dozens of markets across the country on May 15. "The Epitaph world tour came to an exciting conclusion at the renowned Hammersmith Odeon (now known as the Apollo) in London. Knowing our fans around the planet recognize that venue for many legendary metal moments, and of course with Judas Priest being a British metal band, it was the perfect gig for us to film and record," the band said in a statement. Epitaph will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on May 28. This release precedes a new studio album by Judas Priest, which the band is working on now.

Seattle's Bumbershoot has revealed the lineup for this year's festival, which takes place from August 31 – September 2. Death Cab For Cutie will serve as a headliner, and they'll be performing the album Transatlanticism in full. Other noteworthy acts include Kendrick Lamar, MGMT, Crystal Castles, Alt-J, The Breeders, Deerhunter, Bassnectar, Gary Numan, Tegan & Sara, Matt & Kim, Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience, The Zombies, Bob Mould, The Joy Formidable and Baroness.

Fans of Philadelphia's The Hooters take note, drummer David Uosikkinen and his band, In The Pocket are set to release their new CD, David Uosikkinen's In The Pocket Live. Recorded at the Colonial Theatre just outside of Philly in January of 2013, Live features 11 live tracks and three bonus tracks. The ambitious and always musically tasty In The Pocket project, brings together all-star Philly musicians to cover classic Philadelphia tunes such as "Open My Eyes (The Nazz), "Change Reaction" (Robert Hazard), "Disco Inferno" (The Trammps) and "You Can't Sit Down" (The Dovells). David Uosikkinen's In The Pocket Live CD is available for purchase at songsinthepocket.org now. A portion of the proceeds benefit Philadelphia's Settlement Music School. With six branches in PA and NJ, it is the largest community school of the arts in the United States serving 15,000 students each year regardless of age, race, or financial means.
