Chester Bennington Joins STP At KROQ Weenie Roast, Release Single Together

Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington

At the KROQ/Los Angeles Weenie Roast concert on Saturday, a Scott Weiland-less Stone Temple Pilots played a surprise performance with a more surprising singer: Chester Bennington of Linkin Park. The unannounced performance from STP featured Bennington singing a number of the band's hits, as well as a brand new track, "Out Of Time." The band has teamed with CBS Radio to release the tune as a free download, exclusively via CBS' Radio.com here.

CBS Radio also announced this morning that STP has been added to the lineup of KITS (Live 105)/San Francisco's BFD 2013 show tonight. The band spoke with KROQ morning show hosts Kevin and Bean, delivering their first interview together, immediately following their Weenie Roast performance. The entire conversation will air on KROQ on Monday morning.

"Chester has a one-of-a-kind voice that we’ve admired for a long time," guitarist Dean DeLeo said in a statement on STP's re-launched and re-designed website. "We know Linkin Park will always be his priority, but we thought it would be cool to try something together. We managed to find the time to record a song and we’re all really happy with the result."

"I’ve loved STP since I was 13 years old and they’ve had a huge influence on me," explained Bennington. "When the opportunity came up to do something creative with them, I jumped at the chance. The guys in Linkin Park have been incredibly supportive of me undertaking this project while I’ve continued to work on new music with LP."

In February, STP released a one-sentence announcement stating "Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland." Weiland disputed the claim and has been touring solo this year, playing STP's hits.

Other acts at the Weenie Roast included The Black Keys, Thirty Seconds To Mars, Vampire Weekend, Jimmy Eat World and Silversun Pickups.
