U of Albany graduation
Earlier this month, it was announced that Republic Records founders/CEOs Monte and Avery Lipman would deliver the keynote address at their alma mater, the University At Albany. The Lipman brothers spoke at the school's graduation this past Sunday.

They opened the address by acknowledging the University’s President, Dr. Robert J. Jones, and his background as a former member of the platinum, two-time Grammy Award-winning vocal and instrumental group, Sounds of Blackness.  "It warms our heart to know the school is run by a music man," Monte said. Avery concluded the speech with, "if you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life." The Lipmans' address was followed by a special surprise performance by The Voice season 3 winner Cassadee Pope. About the opportunity to address this year's graduates, Monte said, "As you get older, you realize the importance of school and that period of your life; we value our education and it's an honor to return to our alma mater. Albany provided a foundation that prepared us well for the future."

Avery agrees, "While attending Albany, we solidified our love of music; which ultimately became a defining point in our lives and future careers.  We are eternally gracious for the privilege of our higher education."

As undergrads, Monte and Avery worked at the campus radio station WCDB, the University Concert Board, and the Record Co-op; which they credit as the beginning of their love of the music industry.
