June 20, 2013

Lee Leipsner
Lee Leipsner has been promoted to EVP of Promotion for Columbia Records. The appointment comes from EVP/GM Joel Klaiman, to whom Leipsner reports.

Previously serving as Columbia's SVP of Promotion, Leipsner has played an instrumental role in spearheading breaking new artist campaigns for talent including One Direction, Calvin Harris, Olly Murs, J. Cole, Foster The People, Krewella, Passion Pit and Train. Leipsner was recently named the Major Label Promotion Executive of the year at the 2013 Worldwide Radio Summit Industry Awards.

"I am happy to announce Lee’s promotion to Executive Vice President of Promotion," noted Klaiman. "This advancement is well deserved. Lee is the consummate head of Promotion. A true leader with extensive relationships at radio, he’s great with artists, and is willing to travel anywhere for the good of Columbia’s artists. Please join me in congratulating Lee on this promotion."

Commenting on his appointment, Leipsner said, "I would like to give my sincere thanks to Rob Stringer, Ashley Newton and Joel Klaiman for this tremendous opportunity and for their continued belief and support. As I approach my twenty year mark at Sony Music, I’ve never felt better about our incredible team and the amazing roster of artists that make up Columbia Records. It is truly an honor to work for such a historical label. I look forward to the future and in growing our legacy as we continue working closely with radio to develop new artists and further solidify our heritage acts."

Leipsner began his career at Mercury Records in 1989 as a regional promotional exec for the Mid-Atlantic region, based in D.C., segueing to Columbia Records in the same post in 1993. He moved to the New York office the following year to do National Top 40 promotion, rising to Director and SVP of Pop/Adult Top 40 Promotion before leaving the label in 2003 to work for Duran Duran. Leipsner returned to Sony Music’s Epic label in April 2004 as VP of Pop/Adult Top 40 Promotion and, in 2005, he ran the department for a year with Jacqueline Saturn. Leipsner eventually rejoined Columbia Records as SVP of Pop Promotion in October 2006.

Among his numerous industry honors, Leipsner was presented the career achievement award for Pop Promotion from Friday Morning Quarterback in 2008.
