MGMT

MGMT will release their self-titled third album on September 17. In preparation for the release, the band has begun assembling a variety of unique visual elements to accompany and illuminate the new music via "the Optimizer." Produced by MGMT live show video instrumentalist Alejandro Crawford, "the Optimizer" provides listeners of the album with a simultaneously aural and optical listening experience featuring video and CGI work. "the Optimizer" will be part of an enhanced album package available on all commercial formats.

Miley Cyrus has set a new record on VEVO with the video for her single "We Can't Stop." The clip racked up 10.7 million views on VEVO in its first 24 hours after premiering, surpassing the previous record of 10.6 million for Justin Bieber's "Beauty and the Beat," featuring Nicki Minaj. The video debuted last Wednesday, June 19. Cyrus will perform the song live for the first time tonight on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Wiz Khalifa is getting ready to release his third album. On Monday, the rapper tweeted: "I'm droppin an album later this year & namin dat bitch Blacc Hollywood." He also tweeted a link to a new video for the song "Old Chanel" featuring Smoke DZA, though it's unclear if the song is a single from the new album.

The Flaming Lips will perform a string of East Coast dates with Australian rock band Tame Impala this fall. The new dates are set for September 30 in Boston; October 1 & 2 in New York; October 3 in Philadelphia and October 4 in Columbia, MD. West Coast tour dates will be announced soon.

Switchfoot has announced the release of the band's ninth studio album as well as the details behind their new feature film, both titled Fading West. The new album will be released this October on Atlantic Records/Word, while the 80-minute film will serve as the opening act on the band's storyteller-style fall tour, beginning September 20 in St. Louis. The Fading West film follows Switchfoot as they travel the globe in search of new musical inspiration on their 2012 world tour, as well as the creation of the new album.

The Hip-Hop festival Rock the Bells has added over a dozen names to its 2013 lineup. J. Cole, Action Bronson, Big Daddy Kane, Deltron 3030, Freeway, Girl Talk, KRS One, Wale, Pretty Lights, Riff Raff, and Slick Rick with Doug E. Fresh will now join the bill that already includes Wu-Tang Clan, Jurassic 5, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Common, Earl Sweatshirt and many more. Rock the Bells is set for two-day festivals in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington D.C. and New York in September and October.
