Lady Gaga has revealed the cover art for her new single, "Applause," which will be released on August 19. The song is the first track off her forthcoming album, ARTPOP, hitting stores on November 11. Shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, the colorful, mime-like photograph first premiered on the Women's Wear Daily website over the weekend. The image is actually a still shot from the video for the song, which Gaga filmed in Los Angeles recently.
Speaking about the song, the singer told Women's Wear Daily that the music "is very fun. And that it's full of happiness, because what I'm saying in the song essentially is that I live for the applause. I live for the way you cheer and scream for me. Give me that thing that I love. Put your hands up, make them touch."
As reported last week, Gaga will perform at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on August 25 in Brooklyn, and that is expected to be the first-ever live performance of the new single. "Applause" was written with her longtime collaborator, DJ White Shadow.
Additionally, the pre-order for ARTPOP will also now open on August 19, the same day as the release of "Applause," two weeks earlier than previously announced.
