Chris Kash exits the PD seat at CHR WAZR/Harrisonburg to move to Detroit to be with his girlfriend Virginia Rothwell, who handles regional promotion duties there for Capitol Records.
 
Tim Hager is named VP/Sales for Clear Channel Media & Entertainment's eight station cluster in Denver. Hager, who starts September 3, was most recently GSM of KMOX-AM/St. Louis.

The legendary Modern Rock call letters WDRE have resurfaced, as Equinox Broadcasting nabs them for their Modern Rock-Triple A hybrid station in Binghamton, NY. The station moves from a translator frequency to 100.5 FM, as "100.5 The Drive."

Summit Media has promoted Sports WZZN/Birmingham PD John Olsen to National PD for the broadcaster. In his new position, Olsen will assist SVP of Programming Bill Tanner.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, who replaced Bill Gates in 2000, will retire within the coming year. The computing giant did not name Ballmer's successor, but he will remain onboard until his replacement is named. Ballmer has spent the last 33 years with Microsoft. "There is never a perfect time for this type of transition, but now is the right time," Ballmer said in a statement. "We have embarked on a new strategy with a new organization and we have an amazing Senior Leadership Team. My original thoughts on timing would have had my retirement happen in the middle of our company’s transformation to a devices and services company. We need a CEO who will be here longer term for this new direction."

Linda Kury is promoted to VP, Sales – Associated Labels for Universal Music Group Distribution (UMGD).Based at the company’s Santa Monica headquarters, Kury will develop and lead marketplace strategies and priorities for UMGD's unique repertoire of distributed labels, including Big Machine, INgrooves, Concord, Disney, Eagle Rock INgrooves, Savoy and others.

The NAB promotes Ann Marie Cumming to SVP of Communications.
