Quick Hits: Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Maybach Music Group, Elton John, Paul McCartney & The Beatles, Kennedy Center Honors
September 13, 2013

Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga graces the cover of Elle magazine's October issue, and in it, she discusses the inspiration for her new album as well as her struggles to get to the top of the Pop world. "Everyone is so cynical — that I can't purely love my fans, or share an honest story about my past, without someone asking me if I really, truly struggled," Gaga says in the Elle interview. "Do you know how much dirt I ate? Do you know the men I had to crawl through, the people that disrespected my body, my mind, my heart?" She explained that those struggles helped her transform from being Stefani Germanotta to Lady Gaga. "I am — Stefani is — a perpetually tortured artist. That's why I changed my name," she said. "I can't be her in public. She would be a mess!" Gaga's album, ARTPOP, is due on November 11.

Kanye West has added additional dates to his upcoming Yeezus solo tour, including second shows in Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, Brooklyn, and New York City. The trek is set to run from October 19 in Seattle to December 7 in Houston, with Kendrick Lamar as the opening act.

Maybach Music Group and Atlantic Records will offer a unique concert event called Self Made 3: The Live Experience, to herald the release of MMG's new collaborative album, Self Made 3, due on September 17. Self Made 3: The Live Experience will see Rick Ross, Meek Mill, and Wale each performing concerts in three different cities, all live-streamed via Maybach Music Group's newly-launched www.MMG.tv. The one-night-only event – also set for Tuesday, September 17 – will kick off at 8 p.m. ET with Wale's performance from the University of North Carolina, followed by Meek Mill's set at Washington, DC's Ibiza Nightclub, and then Rick Ross live and direct from New York City's Gramercy Theatre. Their complete performances will all be streamed via MMG.TV.

Elton John and his band have announced more dates for a tour that promises to feature all the hits and classic album tracks from throughout his career, as well as selections from his new album, The Diving Board, which will be released by Capitol Records on September 24. So far, dates have been set from November 14 in Washington, DC to November 27 in Philadelphia. It was also recently announced that Sir Elton will make his first appearance on the Emmy Awards on September 22 to perform a tribute to Liberace.

Paul McCartney has revealed the full tracklist for his upcoming album, titled New. Sir Paul also detailed which songs were assisted by which producers. Mark Ronson, Paul Epworth, Ethan Johns and Giles Martin all have production credits on the album. New is due on October 15. In related news, after Beatles fan-site WogBlog reported that a new release, On Air – Live at the BBC Volume 2, would be coming soon, more details have now been confirmed. The release date is set for November 11 and the set comes with over 60 tracks, including 23 previously unreleased recordings of conversation between McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr and the BBC hosts. There also will be a host of performances of Beatles songs and rare covers. It will be released in two-CD and 180-gram vinyl packages with a 48-page booklet.

Billy Joel, Carlos Santana and Herbie Hancock are among the recipients of this year's Kennedy Center Honors, and they will be saluted during a gala performance at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC on December 8. The event will later be broadcast on December 29 on CBS. "I'm truly honored to be named a Kennedy Center honoree along with the other esteemed artists named this year. And to have my name added to the illustrious roster of outstanding musicians that have already been so honored is very meaningful to me," Joel said in a statement on his website. "But to be chosen for this special award essentially for doing what I love most amazes me more than anything."
