The nominees have been announced for the inaugural YouTube Music Awards, with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis leading the pack with three. The awards show will be directed by Spike Jonez and stream live from New York City on November 3. Fans can vote for the winners in the six categories: Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Response of the Year, YouTube Phenomenon, YouTube Breakthrough and Innovation of the Year.
Actor/musician Jason Schwartzman will co-host the show with comedian Reggie Watts, which will feature performances by Eminem, Lady Gaga, Arcade Fire, M.I.A. and Avicii.
The Video of the Year category includes more than just artists' music videos, with the "Barack Obama vs. Mitt Romney" Epic Rap Battles comedy clip also up for the award. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are nominated in this category for "Thrift Shop," as well as Artist of the Year and YouTube Breakthrough, plus YouTube Phenomenon for fan-made videos for "Thrift Shop."
PSY is up for two YouTube Music Awards, for Video of the Year ("Gentleman"), Artist of the Year, along with YouTube Phenomenon for "Gangnam Style." Justin Bieber is nominated twice as well, for Video of the Year ("Beauty And A Beat") and Artist of the Year. One Direction was nominated for the same two categories.
