As part of Tuesday's Apple event revealing the new iPad Air, CEO Tim Cook gave an update on the company's new iTunes Radio streaming service. In its first five weeks, iTunes Radio has reached 20 million users who have streamed one billion songs.
Apple announced a month ago that iTunes Radio had brought in over 11 million unique listeners in its first five days, and CNet notes that the company took another month to double that figure. The site adds that this figure "indicates that many of those initial users were tire kickers, checking out Apple's long-awaited online radio service right after it launched with the rollout of iOS 7 and update to desktop iTunes software."
CNet notes that by comparison, Pandora has approximately 72.7 million active users and crossed 200 million registered users earlier in 2013.
As reported yesterday, the iPad Air weighs just one pound and uses the same new A7 processing chip that Apple rolled out recently in the iPhone 5S.
