Katy Perry's Prism bows at #1 on the sales chart this week by shifting 286,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Prism is Perry's second #1 album, following 2010's Teenage Dream. It also gives Perry her biggest sales week yet, stepping ahead of Teenage Dream's launch of 192,000 copies. Furthermore, Prism marks the largest sales week this year for an album by a woman, and it tallies the largest debut week for a female Pop artist since Madonna's MDNA bowed at #1 with 359,000 in April of 2012, according to Billboard.
Last week's #1 album, Pearl Jam's Lightning Bolt, falls to #2 this week with 46,000. Drake's Nothing Was the Same is #3 with 44,000, and Miley Cyrus'Bangerz is #4 with 43,000. Lorde's Pure Heroine is in the #5 slot this week with 40,000 copies sold.
The second half of the Top 10 is filled mostly with new debuts. Fifth Harmony's Better Together EP starts at #6 with 28,000, and DJ Khaled bows at #7 with Suffering From Success, selling 27,000. It's the Hip-Hop DJ's fifth Top 10 effort. Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience - 2 of 2 rises to #8 with 26,000, and AFI's Burials makes its debut at #9 with 25,000 sold. This is the third Top 10 album for the band, following 2006's Decemberunderground and 2003's Sing the Sorrow. Finally, at #10 this week is Luke Bryan with Crash My Party, selling another 25,000 units.
