Journal Communications has reported its 2013 Q3 results, with its radio division seeing a 3.5 percent jump in revenue. Radio revenue was $20.6 million in the quarter, while local ad revenue grew by 4.3 percent. National ad revenue was down by 4.9 percent though. Journal's Broadcasting division saw its Q3 revenue grow by 2.7 percent to $60.4 million. The company's overall revenue was $97.7 million in the quarter, down 0.1 percent from a year ago.
Beasley Broadcast Group reported a five percent increase in net revenue in the third quarter of 2013, up to $26 million from $24.7 million a year ago. Operating income was up slightly at $6.6 million, while net income jumped 175.5 percent to $3.2 million, due to "a pre-tax $0.8 million music license fee settlement with BMI which had the effect of reducing station operating expenses during the period." Beasley attributed its revenue growth its Philadelphia and Miami-Fort Lauderdale clusters as well as the acquisition of KOAS/Las Vegas in the 2012 third quarter and KVGS/Las Vegas in September 2013.
Spanish language broadcasting giant Univision has reported its Q3 fiscal results, as the company's net revenue was up 10.1 percent to $692.7 million, from $628.9 million a year ago. Univision radio revenue was essentially flat in the quarter, dropping from $90.7 million to $90 million. This was attributed in part to the loss of popular morning host Eddie "Piolin" Sotelo, who joined SiriusXM.
