The nominees for the 2014 Academy Awards were announced this morning, and U2, Pharrell Williams and Karen O will go head-to-head in the category of Best Original Song. Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer Karen O is nominated for "The Moon Song" from the movie Her, Pharrell for "Happy" from Despicable Me 2, and U2 is nominated for "Ordinary Love" from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, which already won the Golden Globe prize in the same category. Other songs also are nominated from the films Alone Yet Not Alone and Frozen. In the category of Best Original Score, members of Arcade Fire are nominated for an Oscar for their work on the film Her.

U.K. band Bastille will extend its spring North American tour into June. The outing will kick off on March 31 in Chicago, and tickets for the newly announced shows will go on sale beginning this Friday, January 17. Bastille will also perform at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival (April 11 and 18), the Hangout Beach Music & Arts Festival (May 18) and the Governors Ball Music Festival (June 6-8). Additionally, the band will be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live on January 25, and The Late Show with David Letterman on January 28.

Harvest Records has signed Morrissey to a worldwide recording deal, and his first album with the label will be released in the second half of this year. Morrissey stated that he is "thrilled" with the agreement, and will commence recording his new album later this month in France with producer Joe Chiccarelli. Joining Moz in France will be his longtime recording and touring band, including Boz Boorer (guitar), Jesse Tobias (guitar), Solomon Walker (bass), Matthew Walker (drums) and Gustavo Manzur (keyboards). Tour dates for 2014 will be announced soon.

The summer festival season just got a bit more crowded as the inaugural Big Guava Music Festival was announced. It will take place from May 2–4 in Tampa, FL, featuring OutKast, Vampire Weekend, Foster the People, HAIM, Girl Talk, Tegan and Sara, Cake, Earl Sweatshirt, Chance the Rapper, Grouplove, Violent Femmes and others.
