A bipartisan coalition of five Members of the House of Representatives have signed on as co-sponsors of a resolution that opposes "any new performance fee, tax, royalty, or other charge" on local broadcast radio stations. The Local Radio Freedom Act is now currently co-sponsored by 193 Members of the House and 12 Senators. The members of the bipartisan group adding their support to the Local Radio Freedom Act are Reps. Susan Brooks (IN-5), Andy Harris (MD-1), Steven Horsford (NV-4), Walter Jones (NC-3) and Steve Scalise (LA-1).
The Mentoring & Inspiring Women in Radio (MIW) Group has announced the mentees selected to participate in the 2014 Mildred Carter MIW Group Mentoring Program: Elisabeth Logan, GSM, Radio One/Cleveland, OH; Stacey Kauffman, LSM, Hubbard/Chicago, IL; Noelia Santelli, NSM, Salem Communications/ New York, NY; Angela Hampton, On-Air Personality, Cromwell Radio Group/ Effingham, IL. This is the twelfth year of the mentoring program, launched in 2002, that matches women in the radio industry with female professionals who are leaders in all aspects of radio broadcasting. To date, the Mildred Carter MIW Group Mentoring Program has successfully worked with a total of 27 mentees.
David Pogue, Yahoo tech columnist and host of NOVA ScienceNow, will speak at the NAB Show Radio Luncheon, on Tuesday, April 8 in Las Vegas. Pogue has expanded Yahoo's consumer technology coverage since starting his column last fall. He is also a monthly columnist for Scientific American and an Emmy Award-winning correspondent for CBS Sunday Morning. Lyssa Thompson joins Crush Music as in-house publicist. Thompson has worked in PR for almost a decade at Girlie Action, Blake Zidell & Associates and most recently at Secretly Canadian. She will work in tandem with existing teams to oversee the Crush roster of artists.
Subaru announced at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show that they will offer HD Radio Technology in all 2015 Subaru Legacy’s. The Legacy is the third Subaru vehicle to offer the HD Radio experience as a standard feature along with the BRZ and WRX. The 2015 Subaru Legacy is expected to arrive at dealers during the summer of 2014.
