Tribune Launches Sports/Talk "The Game 87.7 FM"/Chicago
February 17, 2014
Tribune Broadcasting officially took over Low Power FM 87.7 in Chicago today, and launched a new Sports/Talk station on the former home of Modern Rock Q87.7. Tribune unveiled "The Game 87.7 FM" this afternoon at 1:02 p.m. CT.
The station is launching under a LMA agreement with Venture Technologies Group, which owns the 87.7 license. The leasing deal runs through September 2015, according to Chicago media columnist Robert Feder, with new call letters WGWG expecting to debut later this week.
Of course, Tribune owns Chicago News-Talk powerhouse WGN-AM and that station's President/GM Jimmy deCastro told Feder that with "The Game," "We’re going after a young, more educated sports audience. We want this to be young and hip and fun."
Veteran Windy City personality Jonathon Brandmeier will be heard in mornings, with David Kaplan and David Haugh in middays, Alex Quigley and Howard Griffith in afternoons, Harry Teinowitz and Spike Manton in afternoon drive and Mark Carman in nights, with NBC Sports Radio programming heard overnights.
