In the latest tally of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)'s Gold and Platinum albums, both DaftPunk and Lorde were awarded their first ever platinum plaques for Random Access Memories and Pure Heroine, respectively. Additionally, "Royals" brought Lorde a 6x multi-Platinum Digital Single Award denoting more than six million sold, counting downloads and streams. Katy Perry's "Roar" also reached the 6x multi-Platinum plateau.
Other musical talents earning Platinum album awards in January and February include Beyoncé's self-titled set (her fifth Platinum album), Miley Cyrus'Bangerz (her third Platinum), One Direction's Midnight Memories (their third), Kanye West's Yeezus (his sixth) and the soundtrack to the animated film Frozen. Two popular 2013 albums sold more than 500,000 copies to reach Gold status: Darius Rucker's True Believers and OneRepublic's Native.
Meanwhile, Swedish DJ Avicii earned a 4x multi-Platinum award for his hit "Wake Me Up." Others who entered the Platinum club for selling one million downloads include Krewella for "Alive," Pearl Jam for "Just Breathe," PharrellWilliams with "Happy," YG for "My Hitta," and Zendaya for "Replay."
