Drake was the big winner at mtvU's annual Woodie Awards on Thursday night at SXSW in Austin, TX. The multi-talented Canadian musician won Woodie of the Year, given to the artist who "completely owned the past 12 months." However, since Drake was not on hand in Texas, Lil Wayne made a surprise appearance to accept the award on his behalf. Weezy kicked off the night with an unannounced performance of "A Milli."

Brit band The 1975 won the best new artist Breaking Woodie, while Chance The Rapper won for Best Video thanks to "Everybody's Something." Beyonce won the new "Did It My Way" Woodie for her surprise release of last year's self-titled album, while Ed Sheeran was honored for his live show with the Best Performing Woodie. A$AP Rocky and Skrillex won the Best Collaboration Woodie for "Wild For The Night."

mtvU also honored WESS/East Stroudsburg University with the College Radio Woodie. In addition to Lil Wayne, the show also featured performances from The 1975, Danny Brown, Steve Aoki, Iggy Azalea and Childish Gambino.

This Sunday (3/16), MTV will air the 2014 mtvU Woodie Awards Special at 8 p.m., recapping the event.
