Quick Hits: Nirvana, Katy Perry, Madonna, Smashing Pumpkins, Quebec City Summer Fest
April 10, 2014

Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic sat down with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday's Tonight Show to discuss Nirvana's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In addition to reminiscing with Fallon about Kurt Cobain, they also discussed recording with Paul McCartney for Grohl's Sound City project, and "Weird Al" Yankovic's parody of "Smells Like Teen Spirit."

Katy Perry has released a lyric video for her next single, "Birthday." The clip can be seen below and features the lyrics via a variety of ingredients, cooking supplies and sweets. An official video for "Birthday" is expected out at some point down the road.

Madonna
revealed via Instagram that she has been working on new material with Pop singer-songwriter Natalia Kills. Also shown in the picture of Kills and the Material Girl is producer/songwriter/A&R man Martin Kierszenbaum, who is also founder/Chairman of Cherrytree Records. Madonna recently posted a picture of herself with Avicii, saying she had been writing songs with the EDM artist.

Billy Corgan has announced that the deluxe reissue of The Smashing Pumpkins' 1998 album Adore will be out this summer. The six CD box set will include Adore in stereo and mono, with three discs of unreleased material and a live DVD. In a blog post announcing the reissue, Corgan said, "One thing that might excite fans of the album is that we were able to go back and locate elements from the original sessions that were stored digitally, but never used; such as some of the brilliant work done by Bon Harris. In that fresh mixes have been commissioned, shedding new light on not only the songs hidden foundations, but their futuristic nature as well."

Yet another festival has revealed its lineup, as the Quebec City Summer Fest (aka Festival d’été de Québec) will be held from July 3-13. Over 300 acts will play ten venues throughout the 11 day event, including Soundgarden, Billy Joel, Queens of the Stone Age, Tegan & Sara, Lady Gaga, The Killers, Snoop Dogg, St. Vincent, Young The Giant, and many more. The complete rundown can be found at infofestival.com.
