Forty-five broadcast professionals are contributing to make this year's Kellar Radio Talent Institute a mountain top experience for 24 aspiring young broadcasters accepted into the Institute on the campus of Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. The Kellar Radio Talent Institute begins today with Steve Hammel, President of the NCAB and VP/GM of WRAL-TV, Capitol Broadcasting, Raleigh, making the opening comments.

The Institute includes the Radio Marketing Professional Certification course from the RAB, with those sessions being taught by Gary Weiss, Regional VP, Radio One, Raleigh and Charlotte; Mac “Edwards” McTindal, VP/Market Manager and Pam Patton, AE, of the Beasley Broadcast Group, Fayetteville; Dick Harlow, VP/Market Manager, Dick Broadcasting, Greensboro/Winston-Salem; Larry Weiss, Market Manager, Digity Media, Greenville/New Bern/Jacksonville, NC and Mike Hartel, VP/GM of the L&L Broadcasting stations in Columbia, SC.

The ten-day Institute (June 2-11) covers practically every aspect of the industry with all sessions taught by a radio professional in his or her area of expertise, including: Tom Joyner, President of Joyner Radio, Inc. and Joyner Management Services in Cary, NC, who is doing the opening session on "Getting in, Becoming an Entrepreneur."

Leading sessions on programming, on-air and production are: Brian Douglas, VP of Programming, Entercom, Greensboro/Winston-Salem; John Hancock, Talk Show Host and Jason Furst, PD, from WBT, Greater Media Charlotte; Jack Daniel, Air Talent/PD and Rozak, Air Talent, Arroe Collins, Production Director, Clear Channel Charlotte; Brandon Dickson, Anchor/Reporter, WPTF, Curtis Media, Raleigh; Jon Wood, Air Talent/MD, Blue Ridge Broadcasting, Asheville NC/Knoxville, TN; Jason Goodman, Air Talent/PD and Dave Aiken, Asst. PD/MD, Dick Broadcasting, Greensboro; and Sean Sellers, PD/Air Talent, Entercom, Greensboro/Winston-Salem; and Voice Actor, John Causby, COO of Groundcrew Studios in Charlotte.

Dan Vallie, Director of the Kellar Radio Talent Institute, and Founder of the National Radio Talent System, said, "This all began as the answer to the question, ‘where is the next generation of talent coming from’ and the often stated comment that we need a radio talent farm system for our industry. We now have exactly that as we secure sponsorships from broadcasters and identify universities to create a Radio Talent Institute in each state. It’s exciting to watch and, admittedly, somewhat emotional at times to see students with the talent and passion to succeed in our business, complete the Institute and begin a career, fulfilling our need for young talent and the Radio Talent Institutes being the campus-to-career connection the students need. It’s impressive and heart-warming to see so many broadcasters committing both time and sponsorship to make this happen."

Individual broadcasters, groups or organizations who would like to join the National Radio Talent System in establishing and sponsoring a Radio Talent Institute on a campus in their state and region should contact DanVallie@NationalRadioTalentSystem.com or call 828-262-1502.
