Outkast has added a hometown show to their 2014 tour, as the iconic Hip-Hop duo will curate and headline a homecoming show in Atlantaís Centennial Olympic Park on Saturday, September 27. Additional artists will be announced in coming weeks."It's only right that we give the hometown what we've been giving the rest of the world, Atliens in ATL, homecoming! Festival Killers!," said Big Boi in a statement. "Coming from Atlanta gave us the freedom to be whatever we ever wanted to be because no one was paying attention. Now that everyone is, we want to say thank you," added Andrť 3000.
The city of Houston declared June 10 as "Drake Day" this week, with an official proclamation that "commends and appreciates Drake for dedicating his time to Houston through his passion and enthusiasm for music and our city." Drake, who is famously from Toronto but has made Houston his adopted hometown, is currently in the midst of his own "Houston Appreciation Weekend." As announced yesterday, he will co-headline a late summer tour with Lil Wayne that kicks off August 8 in Darien Center, NY.
Weezer has been in the studio with producer Ric Ocasek, working on their next album. The veteran Rock band has been posting occasional clips on YouTube of the recording process and on Thursday, revealed the new album is called Everything Will Be Alright In The End. There is no release date announced for the new Weezer record.
The drumming "battle" between Red Hot Chili Pepper Chad Smith and Will Ferrell has expanded to include Metallica's Lars Ulrich. Earlier this week, Smith and Ferrell joked to Spin that Ulrich also gets mistaken for the two men (who, unlike Ulrich, do look alike). In response, Ulrich sent a statement to Spin, saying, "It was a little lonely on the sidelines during the first drum-off, given the somewhat forced nature of the lookalike element between Chad Smith and Will Ferrell, when Iím TRULY the one carrying that dead-ringer gene around! As for any further drum-offs, Iím sure that with a bit of practice, I could give Chad a run for his money. But Will? Thatís a whole different story. He rules the 'bad-ass drummer universe.' I mean, youíre talking about a guy whoís so next level, actually, so beyond next level, that he may just be completely unreachable! That said, Iím definitely up for the challengeÖBring it on!!!"
