June 23, 2014
Jason Mraz has announced some U.S. dates on his upcoming tour in support of his new album, YES!, which arrives everywhere on July 15. Following a sold-out show on August 21 in his adopted hometown of San Diego, Mraz will perform an additional local show before making his way along the west coast and then to Texas in September. More U.S. dates will be announced soon.
Julian Casablancas+The Voidz will release their debut album titled Tyranny on September 23 via Casablancas' own Cult Records. The band will begin their first ever "American tour to melt peoples' faces off," as Casablancas describes, on October 16 in Philadelphia.
Prince plans to release a second full-length album – separate from Plectrum Electrum, which he recorded with 3rd Eye Girl – sometime in the near future. The prolific Purple one played several new tunes from the second record for a reporter from the Minneapolis Star Tribune, and he told the newspaper that he believes in albums, not singles. "I've finally got something that is a cohesive statement," Prince said of his newest work, although he did not reveal the album title or release date.
Kanye West made a surprise appearance at comedian Dave Chappelle's standup show at Radio City Music Hall on Friday night. As Complex notes, Kanye delivered a brief three-song performance of "New Slaves," "Gold Digger" and "Jesus Walks" and jumped off the stage to roam the aisles during the show. Chappelle is in the midst of a nine-night residency at Radio City, some nights of which feature already-announced musical guests such as Nas, The Roots, Busta Rhymes, Janelle Monáe, and Erykah Badu.
