Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett Jazz Album Officially Announced
July 29, 2014
Untitled Document Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett have been talking about releasing an album of duets for quite some time, and it appears the record of Jazz standards will arrive this fall. According to an announcement made on The Today Show this morning, the album is called Cheek To Cheek, and it will be released September 23, around the same time as a PBS special entitled Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga: Cheek to Cheek Live! The special, part of the Great Performances series, was filmed last night in New York City at Lincoln Center.

Additionally, the first single from Cheek To Cheek was released via iTunes today. It is a cover of "Anything Goes," the title song from the 1934 Cole Porter Broadway musical.

Speaking to Rolling Stone on the red carpet, Gaga said the album is entirely made up of standards. "It's all songs from the great American songbook," she said, "How did we pick the songs, Tony?" Bennett replied, "It's all the great songs of George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, all the greatest composers. No other country has ever given the rest of the world so many magnificent songs, and they're gonna live forever. Wait 'til you find out when she sings those songs."

"She phrases like I phrase," Bennett added. "She's a wonderful singer. Everybody knows and loves her very much. I think when they hear this album that we're doing, they're going to say, 'We had no idea that she sings that well.'"
