Quick Hits: Godsmack, Beyoncé & Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Pharrell Williams / Ariana Grande / Soundgarden, Jon Bon Jovi
August 4, 2014

To mark the release of Godsmack's sixth full-length album, 1000hp, Boston's Newbury Comics store at Faneuil Hall will host "Godsmack Day" on Wednesday, August 6. As part of the festivities, Godsmack will be on hand in their hometown to sign albums, and Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh will declare August 6 as Godsmack Day. Longtime WAAF/Boston host Mike Hsu will introduce the Mayor at 4:30 p.m. The first 500 fans to pick up the new album during Godsmack Day will be granted a wristband allowing them access to meet the band for an autograph signing after the presentation.

Beyoncé surprised fans on Saturday night by posting a remix of her track "Flawless" featuring an intense new rap verse from Nicki Minaj. The "Flawless" remix marks the first time the two ladies have collaborated on a song. Meanwhile, Nicki also dropped her new single, "Anaconda," which samples Sir Mix-a-Lot's "Baby Got Back."

After more than a year of delays, Chris Brown says that his sixth album, X, will finally come out on September 16. He posted a picture on Instagram that revealed the new date. Brown has been dropping singles from X since 2013, including "Loyal" featuring Lil Wayne, and "New Flame" featuring Usher and Rick Ross.

Pharrell Williams, Ariana Grande and Soundgarden will kick off the NFL season in Seattle. Pharrell will perform outside of CenturyLink Field in Seattle on September 4 before the Seattle Seahawks play the Green Bay Packers to start the football season. Grande will sing the national anthem, and Soundgarden will kick off the free event with a performance, part of which will air on the NFL Network.

Jon Bon Jovi has published a letter in the Buffalo News explaining his intent to buy the Buffalo Bills NFL franchise. The rocker writes that he and his ownership group plan to "make the Bills successful in Buffalo. We are committed to working with the State, City, County and business community to identify the best possible site in the Buffalo area for a new stadium and to then develop and implement a plan to finance and build a state-of-the-art NFL stadium for the loyal Bills fans." He added, "My family and I are prepared to make this life-changing commitment to be part of the Bills. This is not a hobby or an acquisition. Building a winner on and off the field will be job one and I intend to spend as much time on the ground in Buffalo as needed to accomplish that goal."
