Clear Channel has filed its latest opposition to the XM-Sirius merger with the FCC, according to multiple reports. CC declares that the proposed satcaster merger is not in the public interest
In the filing, Clear Channel says an approved merger between XM and Sirius would be "creating a genuine threat to the economic framework of terrestrial broadcast radio." CC also backs up a recent proposal from iBiquity that if the merger is approved, HD Radio capabilities should be tacked in to any new satellite receivers.
In related news, M&A Researcher says in a new analysis that the longer the merger goes unapproved, the less likely it will pass regulatory efforts. According to Orbitcast, M&A puts the merger approval at 1-in-5 odds right now.
