With his band KoRn on the backburner right now, frontman Jonathan Davis has turned his focus on solo touring and his first solo LP. Davis just performed at this year’s Ozzfest festival and told Rolling Stone, "I feel like I’m waving the flag for musicianship, trying to bring back bands that can play. It seems like a lot of music today is so churned out and simple. I like playing these festivals, because it’s one thing all day, and then here I come on, and everyone’s like, ‘Whoa,’ then back to the grind."Davis’ backing musicians for his solo tour are called the Simply F---in’ Amazings and Davis has been experimenting with some of their instruments including didgeridoo, glass harmonica and his favorite, the biwa, which is a Japanese lute. Davis hopes to incorporate these instruments on his solo album, which should be out by the end of November. "I want to include that in my album, because it’s so passionate. Like when you hear a KoRn song and it’s really going crazy, these guys do it with a stringy banjo. I want to bring that to kids here who are like, ‘What the f--k is this?’ and open their minds up to something different."
After his Ozzfest performance, Davis returned home to continue work on his album and plans to follow its release with another solo tour. As for the future of KoRn, the band is down to only three original members. However, Davis says it’s more of a matter of 'when' than 'if' they begin working together again. Davis also says the door is always open for departed guitarist Brian "Head" Welch and drummer David Silveria to return. Davis tells Rolling Stone, "When I’m done with this, I’ll go to my other gig, but right now, I’m having fun. I’m not planning that far ahead. This is where I’m at, and I’m really enjoying it."
