AC/DC will host their own channel on both Sirius and XM Satellite Radio. The channel will celebrate AC/DC’s iconic career and the upcoming release of Black Ice, the band’s first studio album in eight years, which comes out October 20. AC/DC Radio will be broadcast on Sirius channel 29 and on XM channel 53 from September 15 through January 15. The channel will air AC/DC music 24/7, including classic tunes and new songs from Black Ice. The channel will also feature band members Angus Young, Malcolm Young, Cliff Williams, Brian Johnson and Phil Rudd discussing their career and sharing personal insights into their music. The group will guide listeners through an exclusive preview of every track on Black Ice, and AC/DC Radio listeners will even have the opportunity to vote on their favorite AC/DC songs, with the results being played back during the "Ultimate AC/DC Countdown."
As reported yesterday, Oasis' Noel Gallagher was assaulted onstage during the band's performance over the weekend at the Virgin Mobile Festival in Toronto. According to reports, Gallagher suffered ligament damage and a possible fractured rib, causing the band to postpone their show in London, Ontario, Canada. The assailant, Daniel Sullivan, was arrested and charged with assault.
The announcements about this fall's Guitar Hero: World Tour keep on coming. Sting and Tool are getting in on the fun, as Metallica continue to expand their presence in both Guitar Hero and Rock Band 2. The new Guitar Hero sequel will feature Sting as a playable character, with the Police tune "Demolition Man" appearing in the game. As for Tool, three of their songs will appear in the game ("Vicarious," "Parabola" and "Schism") and a Tool-themed venue, designed by the band, will also be available. Metallica will offer two exclusive versions of "Suicide & Redemption" with the downloadable version of Death Magnetic for each game.
Miley Cyrus is the star of Clear Channel's newest edition in its "Stripped" series of online, live performances. The Pop star performs four of her own tunes, along with a cover of Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." The set is available on over 190 CC stations' Web sites, along with www.iheartmusic.com.
Carlos Santana calls the upcoming compilation Multi Dimensional Warrior, due September 30 on Columbia/Legacy, "a love letter to fans." Santana personally supervised the two-disc, career-spanning set, which features 28 songs from 1970-2002, as well as the artwork and package design. Santana also put some new overdubs onto five of the songs, such as adding more guitar tracks to "Spirit" and "Right Now." Meanwhile, he expects to record another Supernatural type of album, but "not for awhile, maybe two years from now," he told Billboard.com. He lists some of the artists he'd like to collaborate with as cellist Yo-Yo Ma, operatic tenor Andrea Bocelli and Afrobeat artist Sola Kuti.
After spending most of their career on Geffen Records, indie rock veterans Sonic Youth have signed to Matador Records for their next studio album. "For Matador, the opportunity to work in partnership with a group who’ve made such an profound impact on our roster/hometown/collective consciousness was one to jump at," the label said in a statement. Sonic Youth's new album is due out in 2009.
