The long-awaited MySpace Music service, which will offer DRM-free downloads from Universal, Sony BMG and Warner Music Group, is likely to launch this month. In fact, a number of Web sites claim that it is aiming to launch on September 15, though that has not been officially confirmed. MySpace Music plans to let fans share music through their pages and build communal playlists, as well as purchase merchandise and tickets.
"It’s not the same kind of listening you do with iTunes," says the site’s co-founder, Tom Anderson, according to Rolling Stone. "It’s about sharing songs with your friends and checking out what they are listening to."
As previously reported, EMI Music is the one major label that has not yet signed on for MySpace Music.
