 Weezer

Weezer took three years to follow-up 2005's Make Believe with this year's Red Album. Could the band have their next record out much sooner? Drummer Pat Wilson tells Billboard that after this fall's tour, Weezer will hop back in the studio with producer Jacknife Lee (U2, R.E.M., Snow Patrol).Lee produced two tracks on the Red Album and Wilson said that the producer is already involved in some pre-production. "We send him stuff that we've got, ideas that we have, whether it's a whole song or a killer riff we can build around or something," Wilson explains. "It's all going to him right now."
On the new record, the four band members switched up songwriting and instrument roles and Wilson says that will be the plan once again. "It just seemed like that was the healthy way to keep everything feeling fresh. After 15 years of doing it the other way, it just felt like it was time," he said, adding, "Now that we've got more writers, we don't have to wait for [frontman] Rivers [Cuomo] to have a bunch of songs he's happy with. We used to take forever to make a record, then tour on it forever and be burnt out and not do anything for two years. This is a lot better."
Weezer's next album will be their last under their current contract with Geffen but Wilson says, "We're just really focused on trying to make the best record we can. I'm sure at that point we'll have all kinds of different options and we'll figure out what's the best for us."
Weezer's fall tour begins in Lowell, MA on September 23 and winds up in Duluth, GA on October 25.
