 Beyoncé
| As Beyoncé gets ready to release her third solo album on November 18, the singer has finally spoken publicly about the CD, which has been kept tightly under wraps. In an open letter to fans, Beyoncé wrote, "I have worked on this album for close to one year. I have taken the time so I can create my sound. Something that says who I am at this stage in my life. I have poured my heart and soul into it. I have recorded over 70 songs and have created a sound that reveals all of me. I am in a different place right now, and I wanted people to see the many sides of me. The music is upbeat for the dance, fun side, and it is reflective, passionate and serious for the personal side. I have taken risks here. I am not afraid. There is no label or tag on my sound. It's me, and I am so excited to share it with the world." The only information that was previously known about the album was that Beyoncé collaborated with Justin Timberlake, and that two songs - "If I Were A Boy" and "Single Ladies" - will be released in advance of the album on October 7. Billboard reports that Beyoncé is also planning a 2009 tour, with international dates in the spring and a summer trek through North America.
Avid sports fan Lil Wayne has been a busy man lately. Not only is he blogging about sports for ESPN.com, but he's also in the studio working on a mix tape and a new album, Tha Carter IV. "The mixed tape you can expect real soon," Wayne wrote on his ESPN blog. "It's called Dedication 3, and it's going to be Gangsta Grillz by DJ Drama. And then right after that, I'm putting that same mix tape out with twenty extra songs for free on my Web site." Furthermore, Wayne is collaborating with T-Pain for a duets album called T-Wayne, which is slated for release in 2009. Wayne also notes on his blog that he got ESPN tattooed on his arm, and he predicts that the Tampa Bay Rays will win the World Series.
Kid Rock has long resisted selling his music digitally, but it seems the Detroit rocker has changed his tune and signed an exclusive deal with Rhapsody. Kid Rock’s entire discography is now available for both streaming and downloading at both Rhapsody and their MP3 store. Rhapsody will only sell Rock’s albums in their entirety, not as individual songs. The deal lasts four months, after which time Kid may sell his tunes on other digital-music services if he so chooses.
Drowning Pool is ramping up the fan experience for its upcoming tour with Saliva by offering VIP ticket packages via DrowningPool.com. The VIP packages will include meet & greets and photo opportunities with the band, early entry passes, special merchandise, autographed collectibles and more. Drowning Pool and Saliva will hit the road with Tantric and Jet Black Stare from October 17 in St. Petersburg, FL to November 22 in Galamis Beach, CA.
Is Kanye West too hot for TV? It looks like his proposed HBO series, which was supposed to be like Kanye's version of Curb Your Enthusiasm, is on the back burner for now. Writer and producer Larry Charles, who was working on the project, recently told ComingSoon.net that "it was too hard core for HBO." "Also, HBO's management shifted. HBO doesn't have a good track record when it comes to black shows, and I felt like that may have had something to do with it also," Charles told the site. "I don't see a lot of shows about that experience at all. This was very entertaining and we showed it to a lot of people. People gave it a very good response, and it seems to be on the shelf right now." Charles added that Kanye is a lot funnier than people realize. "Even the whole being-full-of-himself stuff is a joke to him, and he likes to play that of being like Kanye," Charles said. "He's kind of a brilliant guy actually." A documentary called Wu: The Story of the Wu-Tang Clan will premiere November 13 on BET, five days before its release on DVD. The film chronicles the group's rise from Staten Island by using interviews and rare footage. During debut week, members of the Clan will appear on BET's 106 & Park to discuss the movie. An accompanying CD will be released on November 18 via BET/Legacy, featuring a mix of Wu-Tang hits as well as tracks from the members' solo albums. A new 2-CD/1-DVD live set from the Grateful Dead recorded in Egypt in 1978 is now in stores. Rocking The Cradle: Grateful Dead, Egypt 1978 includes over 95 minutes of concert footage and the mini-documentary "Vacation Tapes." The Dead played three shows outside Cairo in front of the pyramids, which were recorded at the time for a live album that fell by the wayside, but now has seen official release.
